Southwest from Gainesville, Florida some 15 miles down Highway 24 lays Archer, also fittingly known as SW Archer Road, lays Archer, a town filled with an early 20th century brand of historic ambiance.
Quaint brick shops and art galleries line Main Street of this predominately old railroad town a fact that isn't lost on any visitor. From the end of the Civil War through the 1930's, the railroad helped move produce, create markets and innovate industry in Archer. Even today, the best time to visit is during the first week of June for Yulee Railroad Days, an annual festival celebrated all over North Florida featuring local history reenactments, a model train show, a special museum exhibit, sporting events and plenty of stuff for the kids.
